Rashawn Price’s 1-yard touchdown followed by David Bowman’s two-point conversion in the fourth quarter allowed Milford High to edge Delmar High 20-19 in a Henlopen Conference Southern Division football contest on Friday night.

The Buccaneers rallied from a 13-0 first quarter deficit. They got touchdowns from Bowman (4-yard rush) and a catch by Brion Murray on a 34-yard pass by quarterback Marcus Correa.

Delmar was led by three rushing touchdowns from three different players — Jimmy Adkins, DeJour Brown and Kavon Trader.

Salesianum 42, Sussex Tech 7: The Sals earned revenge for last season’s playoff defeat at Sussex Tech.

Timaun Williams scored the lone touchdown for the Ravens on a 38-yard rush.

Woodbridge 44, Laurel 6: The Blue Raiders picked up the Henlopen South victory to remain in playoff contention.

Boys’ soccer

Six downstate squads make tourney: Six Henlopen Conference teams will play in the boys’ soccer state tournaments as the DIAA announced the brackets on Friday afternoon.

Caesar Rodney, Polytech, Cape Henlopen and Sussex Tech made the eight-team field for the Division I tournament while Milford and Indian River are in the 12-team Division II playoff.

Games in Division I will be doubleheaders on Saturday. Caesar Rodney (11-4), seeded fifth, will face No. 4 Wilmington Charter (12-3) at 5 p.m. at Smyrna High.

Polytech (12-3) earned the seventh seed and meets defending state champion and second seed Salesianum (11-3-1) at 5 p.m. at Milford High. That contest will be followed by Cape Henlopen (14-1), the third seed, playing No. 6 Sussex Tech (10-3-2) at 7 p.m.

The Division II opening round will be on Tuesday and Wednesday night. Milford and Indian River will be part of a doubleheader at Dover High on Tuesday.

Milford (8-7), seeded ninth, faces No. 8 Archmere (9-6) in the first game at 6 p.m. No. 5 Indian River (10-5) is in the later game at 8 p.m. against No. 12 Brandywine (8-6-1).

The second round for the Division II tournament will be on Saturday with doubleheaders at Dover and Appoquinimink.

The Division I tournament semifinals are Wednesday Nov. 18 at Smyrna and the finals will be the following Saturday, also at Smyrna. Smyrna will also host the Division II finals the same day while the Division II semifinals are Nov. 18 at Appoquinimink.

Field hockey

Five Henlopen teams in tourney: Four-time defending state champion Cape Henlopen High earned the top seed in the DIAA field hockey state tournament bracket that was determined on Friday.

The Henlopen Conference champion Vikings (15-0) are one of five Henlopen Conference teams to make the 16-team field. The tourney begins with first-round games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Tuesday, 10th-seeded Dover (10-4-1) will play a 3:30 p.m. game at No. 7 Middletown (12-3); No. 15 Milford (9-5-1) will take on second-seeded Wilmington Christian (14-1) at The Montessori School at 2:30 p.m.; and third-seeded Delmar (12-1-1) will host No. 14 Conrad (10-4-1) at 2:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Cape Henlopen will host No. 16 Brandywine (11-4) at 2:30 p.m. while fourth-seeded Polytech (12-2) hosts Ursuline (10-4-1) at 2:30 p.m. The Vikings beat the Panthers in last year’s state finals.

The tournament continues with second-round games on Saturday, Nov. 14.

Henlopen Conference teams have won the state title in six straight years with two downstate squads playing in the finals each of the last four years.

College field hockey

Delaware 8, Hofstra 1: No. 15 Delaware, the two-time defending champion, erupted for an 8-1 win over Hofstra in the CAA semifinals, hosted by James Madison.

The second-seeded Hens advance to the league’s championship match for the third consecutive season. Delaware (15-5, 4-2 CAA) will face off against the top-seeded and No. 16 Dukes (14-5, 6-0 CAA) Sunday at 2 p.m. for the second straight year.

Junior Esmée Peet led all scorers with five points on two goals and an assist, while classmate Meghan Winesett added two goals.

Sophomore Kayla Devlin and freshman Kiki Bink combined for five assists, all of which came on penalty corner goals.

Nine Blue Hens tallied at least one point in the victory.

Sophomore goalie Emmeline Oltmans notched three saves for Delaware while senior Janell Holmes collected her fourth career defensive save.

Stella Schoen posted Hofstra’s lone goal of the evening as the Pride finish their season at 14-6 overall. Lauren Saltus and Carys Swan split time in the cage, each allowing four goals and combining for seven total saves.

College volleyball

Hampton 3, DSU 1: Hampton held off Delaware State 3-1 in a MEAC contest.The Pirates won the first set 25-13, and opened up a 2-0 lead in the match with a 28-26 victory in set two. The Hornets stayed alive in the match with a 25-22 win in the third set, but Hampton took the fourth set 25-23 to earn the victory.

The loss overshadowed another double-double performance by DSU senior Jasmine Jackson, who led the Hornets with 17 kills and added a season-high 20 digs. Jackson has reached double figures in kills and digs in each of the last two matches, and 11 times this season.

Delaware State’s Alliyah McBean led all players with 25 digs, while Hornet freshman Marisol Arredondo had a match-high 32 assists.

Hampton posted a .142 hitting percentage in the match, recording 48 kills and 27 errors on 148 attacks. Delaware State had a .046 percentage (41/34/153). The Pirates collected 70 digs, while DSU had 63. Hampton had a total of 17 blocks, compared to 13 for the Hornets.

Jasmine Jackson had a solo block and two blocks assists for DSU.

Hampton improved to 3-20 overall and 3-7 in the MEAC, while Delaware fell to 2-22 and 0-9.
