Seven different players scored as Milford downed St. Thomas More 8-0 in a nonconference field hockey contest on Wednesday afternoon.

Megan Fry opened the game with back-to-back goals in the first half. Vanasha Daniels also netted a goal to give the Buccaneers a 3-0 lead headed into halftime.

Hayden Shockley, Daphne Leighty, Katelyn Melvin, Courtney Lingo and Emily Sylvester added goals for Milford in the second half.

The Buccaneers ended their regular season at 9-5-1.

Seaford 0, McKean 0: McKean out-shot the Blue Jays 3-2 but remained scoreless in a nonconference matchup.

College football

DSU’s Sherrod on watch list: Delaware State defensive end Gabe Sherrod is gaining national recognition for his play this season. Sherrod has been named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) 2015 FCS Defensive Awards Watch List.

The list includes 32 players for each defensive position, including linebacker, lineman and back. Sherrod is near the top of the national rankings in tackles-for-loss this season.

Sherrod is third in the MEAC and sixth among all FCS players at 1.9 tackles for loss per game (15 total), according to the NCAA statistical report for games as of Oct. 31. For the season, he is fifth on the Hornets with 46 tackles and tops the team in sacks (4.5), in addition to tackles for loss. Sherrod is also credited with four quarterback hurries and two blocked kicks this season. He had 3.5 tackles behind the line-of-scrimmage vs. South Carolina State on Oct. 24. Sherrod led all Hornet linemen with 10 tackles (seven unassisted), including 4.5 for lost yardage in the Sep. 5 opener at Liberty. Sherrod recorded seven tackles, including 3.5 behind the line-of-scrimmage, a sack and a blocked kick in the contest.

College soccer

WOMEN, Five Hens honored: The University of Delaware women’s soccer program was well-represented on the All-Colonial Athletic Association teams announced by the league office Wednesday afternoon as five Blue Hens were selected to the All-CAA, all-rookie, and all-academic teams.

Junior forward Natalie Zelenky and senior defender Maddy Parker earned spots on the All-CAA second team, senior midfielder Emily Market was selected to the All-CAA third team, freshman forward Riley Curtin was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team, and junior defender Michelle McEnroe was UD’s representative on the CAA All-Academic Team.

Zelenky and Market have now been honored by the CAA multiple times in their careers. Zelenky earned all-rookie honors in 2013 and third team honors in 2014 while Market was an all-rookie selection in 2012, was on the third team in 2013, and was a second team pick last season.

Delaware concluded its season on Sunday with a 4-0 setback to No. 3 seed UNCW in the CAA quarterfinals. The Blue Hens, who advanced to the postseason for the fourth time in the last five seasons for head coach Scott Grzenda, finished with a record of 8-9-2 and were sixth in the CAA standings (3-4-2).

Zelenky, an honor student as pre-veterinary and animal biosciences major, started all 19 games and led the team in scoring with 11 goals and 1 assist for 23 points while also pacing the team with five game-winning goals and 57 shots. She scored two or more goals four times and her 11 goals ranked second in the CAA and were the most by a UD player since the 2011 season. She has scored 19 career goals.

Parker, a health behavior science major, anchored the Blue Hen defense all season long as a fourth-year starter. She was the only player on the team and one of the few players in the CAA to play every minute of every game (1,768 minutes) this season and helped the team record five shutouts.

Market, a tri-captain and an honor student as a nursing major, also started all 19 games for the Blue Hens as a fourth-year starter. She recorded one assist and eight shots during the season and finished her career with 14 points.

Curtin, a biomedical engineering major, ranked among the top freshmen in the conference all season. She ranked second on the team with 13 points, led the team with five assists, and was second with four assists and 28 shots. She ranked second among all CAA freshmen in scoring and her 13 points were the most by a UD rookie since 2007.

McEnroe, an honor student as a communications major, started all 19 games and ranked fourth on the team in scoring with six points on two goals and two assists. She scored the game-winner in an early season upset win over Princeton and also had 20 shots on the season.

Leah Galton of CAA regular season champion Hofstra was named the CAA Player of the Year, William & Mary back Caroline Casey was named CAA Defensive Player of the Year, Drexel forward Vanessa Kara was named CAA Rookie of the Year, and UNCW’s Paul Cairney was named CAA Coach of the Year.
