Sussex Central High scored four runs in both the first and second innings on its way to a 12-0 victory over Dover High in a Henlopen Conference Northern Division softball contest on Thursday afternoon.

Hayley McCabe pitched a one-hitter for the Golden Knights while also hitting a double and a triple. Taylor Evick doubled twice and Chelsey Ward also had a double for Sussex Central.

Lake Forest 24, St. Mark’s 5: Mya Maddox went 5-for-5 to pace Lake Forest to the nonconference win.

Kerrigan Simpson went 3-for-3, Brittany Baker 2-for-3 and Catera Kennedy 3-for-5 in Lake’s winning effort.

Milford 3, Padua 2: Khya Reynolds hit a bases loaded triple in the bottom of the second to give Milford an early lead and the Buccaneers managed to hold on.

Reynolds went 2-for-3 along with Nia Bowe and Bri Cahall. Mo Abbott pitched seven strong innings to record the win.

Caesar Rodney 9, Delmar 5: Lauren Polinkski collected two doubles for the Riders while Alexis Howerin and Mirabella Klebart each tripled.

Avery Wheatly went 4-for-4 and hit for the cycle for the Wildcats.

Baseball

Dover 9, Sussex Central 0: Garrett Lawson struck out 13 to highlight a complete-game shutout for the Senator senior.

Lawson was also 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Jordan Hutchins and Semaj Kelly also had two hits and Tevin Thomas had a two-RBI double for the Dover offense.  Treyvell Toppin was 1-for-3 for the Golden Knights.

Delmar 4, Caesar Rodney 3: Jordan Haddaway and Chris Richardson combined to throw a one-hitter enroute to the Delmar win.

Fred Frey was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs while Tim Ward had a hit and drove in a run. Kyle Comegys recorded the lone CR hit.

Indian River 6, Woodbridge 3: Zane Richard doubled and knocked in three runs to help lift the Indians in a Henlopen South matchup.

Girls’ soccer

Polytech 5, Sussex Central 0: Meadow Watkinson scored twice in the Panther victory while they also got goals from Devon Ott, Kelley Alstott and Brooke Marble.

Caesar Rodney 10, Cape Henlopen 0: Aleya Cummings had four goals and Lynsy Gruwell chipped in three for the Riders.

Jessie Prillaman, Jameah Nixon and Kimberly Glasser each scored once for CR who out-shot Cape 24-1.

Lake Forest 10, Seaford 2: Hannah Fox ‘s hat-trick paced the Spartans and Joy Springer added a pair of goals.

Alyssa Santore, Julianna Tyndall, Jocelyn Hughes, Brooke Tucker and Kallie Moyer also scored for the Spartans.

Indian River 9, Sussex Academy 0: Madison Mercer and Brooke Beam each had two-goal games for the Indians.

Madison Hogsten, Emma Engel, Aline Guzman, Skyler McClure and Davina Baine rounded out the scoring for Indian River.

College lacrosse

WOMEN, Seven Hens earn postseason honors: Senior Erin Wein was tabbed the Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year while six other Blue Hens garnered All-Conference accolades, as voted on by the league’s head coaches and announced by the league Thursday morning.

Wein, who is Delaware’s first-ever conference Defensive Player of the Year honoree, joined classmate Casey Lyons in earning First Team praises for the third consecutive season.

The CAA also honored junior Jamie Schwartz as a Second Team selection for the second straight year while senior Kara Dattellas and sophomore Taylor Carpentier garnered Second Team honors for the first time in their careers.  Additionally, freshman Caroline Farley was named to the All-Rookie Team and senior Elyse Andrews was recognized for her work in the classroom as an All-Academic Team awardee for the third time.

The seven awards mark the most-ever for the Blue Hens as members of the CAA and most since 2001 when Delaware was a part of the America East Conference.

College golf

WOMEN, UD tied for 16th at regional: The University of Delaware sits in 16th place while senior Andi Slane is tied for 20th as the Blue Hens competed in the first round of the NCAA Women’s Golf Bryan Regional on Thursday.

Delaware, participating in its first NCAA Regional in school history, posted a 311 team score on Thursday to finish the round in 16th place out of 18 squads.

Sixth-ranked Georgia and No. 11 Arizona lead the field with 285 scores, and Campbell and No. 19 Furman are tied for third with 288 scores.
