Alissa Haith netted 34 points to lead Caesar Rodney High to a 72-63 victory over Smyrna in Henlopen Conference Northern Division girls’ basketball on Thursday night.

Haith, a junior, sank three three-pointers and went 17-of-22 from the foul line for the Riders.

The Eagles’ Melena Credle also had 34 points. She hit 11 of Smyrna’s 22 field goals in the contest.

Ashunte Manigo added 11 points for the Eagles.

CR, which held a 31-21 halftime lead, was 25-for-44 on free throws while the Eagles were 13-for-31.

Milford 50, Lake Forest 40: After tallying just two points in the third quarter, the Buccaneers outscored the Spartans, 24-14, in the fourth quarter to pull away to the South victory.

Milford’s Kala Fluitt netted a game-high 16 points.

Mya Maddox had 12 points and Arika Burrell scored 11 to lead Lake.

Delmar 50, Seaford 36: The Wildcats downed the Blue Jays in a Henlopen South matchup.

Newark Charter 36, Indian River 19: Kealey Allison had nine points for the Indians in their nonconference loss.

Boys’ basketball

Cape Henlopen 73, Sussex Tech 72: The Vikings made a defensive stop at the end to hold off the Ravens for the North victory.

Randy Rickards tallied a game-high 23 points for Cape, which also got double-digit scoring from Jeremiah Smack (13), Drew Mulcahy (11) and Ian Robertson (10).

Brandon Palmer had a team-high 22 points for the Ravens while Ja’ron Hunt-Fletcher added 13.

Woodbridge 67, Laurel 61: Cornell Corbin (17 points), Blaize Radford (16) and Hassan Corbin (15) paced Raiders to the South victory.

Hassan Corbin sank four three-pointers for Woodbridge, which built a nine-point lead going into the fourth quarter.

Jaquail Bland tallied 18 points, including four three-pointers, for the Bulldogs.

Seaford 71, Delmar 60: The Blue Jays outscored the Wildcats, 23-13, in the fourth quarter to put away the South win.

Jaquan Darling (22 points), Andrez Jones (18) and Rahim Smith (17) all finished in double figures for Seaford.

Delmar’s Shyheim Mitchell also had 22 points to lead the Wildcats.

NASCAR

DOHS to sponsor Dover race: The Delaware Office of Highway Safety will once again be the primary sponsor for a Dover International Speedway event in 2016 with the “Drive Sober 200” NASCAR XFINITY Series race on Oct. 1, track officials announced on Thursday.

This will be the third consecutive year the Office of Highway Safety has served as an entitlement sponsor for a NASCAR XFINITY Series race at the Monster Mile. Previous NASCAR XFINITY Series sponsorships have included the “Buckle Up 200” presented by Click it or Ticket races on May 30, 2015 and May 31, 2014.

Dover International Speedway will welcome two NASCAR tripleheader weekends in 2016 on May 13-15 and Sept. 30-Oct. 2. In the spring, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series returns on Sunday, May 15, preceded by the NASCAR XFINITY Series on Saturday, May 14 and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Friday, May 13.

In addition to the “Drive Sober 200” NASCAR XFINITY Series race on Oct. 1, the “AAA 400” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Oct. 2 will feature the first four eliminations of the 16-driver Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship playoff field. It will be the third straight year that the Monster Mile will host the first elimination race of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup playoff. The track will also host a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race on Friday, Sept. 30.
