Caesar Rodney High’s fourth-quarter comeback fell short as the Riders lost to St. Mark’s, 47-43, in a nonconference boys’ basketball game on Tuesday night.

Trailing by nine, CR outscored the Spartans, 17-12, in the final eight minutes. St. Mark’s Mike Rawding sank a pair of foul shots in the final 14 seconds to seal the victory.

The Riders had 15 field goals to 12 for St. Mark’s. But the Spartans had one more three-pointer and went 11-for-17 from the foul line compared to 4-for-7 shooting for CR.

Davione Robinson tallied a team-high 16 points for CR.

Lake Forest 50, Red Lion Christian 45: The Spartans took a 41-25 advantage into the fourth quarter before holding off Red Lion for their fifth straight win.

Cameron Lewis had 18 points with Dominique Griffith scoring 16 for Lake Forest (8-6).

Woodbridge 74, Polytech 48: The Raiders led by only a point after the first quarter before outscoring the Panthers, 21-11, in the second quarter to take control.

Sussex Central 51, Indian River 42: The Golden Knights topped the Indians in a intradistrict contest.

Girls’ basketball

Caesar Rodney 58, St. Mark’s 49: The Riders (12-3) won their seventh straight game after going up 32-20 at halftime.

Alissa Haith tallied a game-high 18 points for CR.

Cape Henlopen 54, St. Andrews 14: Paige Mohr scored 12 points and Alexis Watkins added nine on three three-pointers as the Vikings notched the win.

Cape limited the Cardinals to just three second-half points.

St. Elizabeth 59, Milford 47: The Vikings built a 19-point lead after three quarters before downing the Buccaneers.

Kala Fluitt netted 21 points for Milford with Kiarra Brittingham adding 10, including three three-pointers.

Sussex Central 50, Indian River 19: Lamesha Walker (11 points), Emily Truitt (10) and Baleigh Lambert (10) all scored in double figures to pace the Golden Knights.

Concord 71, Smyrna 28: The Raiders jumped out to a 50-18 halftime lead in the nonconference win.

Jayla Smith and Ashunte Manigo had eight points apiece for Smyrna.

Appoquinimink 52, Woodbridge 49: The Jaguars sank six three-pointers, four more than the Raiders, and that was the difference in the nonconference contest.

Altia Anderson finished with 19 points while Tykeya Nelson had 10 for Woodbridge (9-5), which has still won eight of its last 10 games.

College football

Wolverines win another Lambert Cup: The Wesley College Football team has earned their second straight Division III Lambert Meadowlands Trophy, awarded to the top team in the East by the Metropolitan New York Football Writers’ Association.

The Wolverines earned the honor after an 11-2 campaign that included a trip to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals.

The honor marks Wesley’s sixth Lambert Meadowlands Trophy. The Wolverines also earned the honor in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2014.

Only two schools have received the award more times than the Wolverines (Rowan with eight and Ithaca with seven and a half), but no team has earned the award more frequently than Wesley in the past decade.

“We’re proud to be honored with the Lambert Meadowlands Trophy for the sixth time in nine years,” said Wesley coach Mike Drass. “It’s a point of pride in our program to be honored as the number one team on the East Coast.”

Lambert Award recipients will be honored on Feb. 25, at the Eastern College Football Awards Banquet at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

College indoor track

Wesley’s Mitchell honored: For the second straight week, the Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Week was from Wesley College as Kaylah Mitchell earned the honor on Tuesday.

Mitchell, a freshman, secure a pair of first-place finishes at the Muhlenberg Invitational. Mitchell won the long jump with a leap of 5.08m (16’-8”) and the triple jump with a 10.12m (33’-2.5”) mark. Both marks are tops in the CAC this indoor season.
