Letter to the Editor: Wise up, people, and weed out corrupt government officials

Posted

To refresh our memories, democracy is defined as “a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections.” This is what the Founding Fathers of these here United States based their experiment of forming a new and more perfect government on.

However, through the decades of growth of this nation plus many personal interpretations of what our more perfect government should be, there is a noticeable disconnect with the original idea. Basically, we see some of our elected government representatives working for their own good with absolutely no regard for the good of all or those who elected them. It’s like an old street saying, “Hooray for me and to heck with you.”

Unfortunately for the general public, the “hooray for me” government officials are very good in selling their bill of goods to the public, as they set up smoke screens to make it look like they are working for us.

We, the public, have to be aware of and more diligent in weeding out these government officials who work only to maintain their jobs and status. As they keep us in the dark and keep us constantly in political party battles, they are able to breeze through their governmental jobs, without actually knowing or doing any government work. Again, basically, we, the people, need to wise up!
