Lake Forest downs Woodbridge in girls' basketball

The Raiders (11-4) had a three-game winning streak snapped. The loss also leaves Milford as the only team in the South with one division loss. Dover 45, Cape Henlopen 34: The Senators outscored the Vikings, 11-2, in the fourth quarter to finish off their 11th straight win. Dover (8-2 North, 12-3 overall) led 29-17 at halftime before Cape cut that advantage to only two points going into the final period. Paschence Harris had a team-high 10 points for the Senators. Dover next plays at rival Caesar Rodney on Monday at 7:15 p.m. Sydney Pederson had 14 points for the Vikings, sinking four of their six three-pointers. Caesar Rodney 64, Sussex Tech 43: The Riders picked up their fifth win in a row behind 14 points from Simone London. The Riders’ Henlopen North showdown with Sussex Central, orginally slated for Saturday, has been postponed until Feb. 20. Smyrna 23, Polytech 21: Melena Credle’s 14 points led the Eagles to the low-scoring Henlopen North win. Milford 54, Indian River 41: Jameshia Baker netted 20 points to pace the Buccaneers to the Henlopen South win. Kala Fluitt added 14 points for Milford, which outscored IR, 19-4, in the first quarter to take control. Taylor Billinger scored 15 points to lead the Indians. Delmar 49, Laurel 39: Carly Covington collected 22 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Wildcats to the South win. Tatnall 58, St. Thomas More 26: Kelsey Huffman tallied 15 points for the Ravens in their nonconference loss. Boys’ basketball Dover 68, Cape Henlopen 50: The Senators jumped out to a 23-point halftime lead before posting their second straight Henlopen Conference Northern Division win. Jordan Allen (16 points), Terrance Woodlin (13) and Bryan Pettit (13) all scored in double figures for Dover. Allen had four of the Senators’ six three-pointers. Ryan Thornburg (13), who sank three three-pointers, and Demetrius Price (12) led the Vikings. Sussex Tech 55, Caesar Rodney 51: Shi’wuan Sykes scored 24 points to pace the Ravens to the Henlopen North win. Woodbridge 56, Lake Forest 53: Randy DuPont’s three-pointer at the buzzer gave the Raiders a dramatic Henlopen South win. DuPont (14 points), Byrone Lake (12) and Shai’ree Best (10) all scored in double figures for Woodbridge. Dominique Griffith tallied a game-high 18 points for the Spartans, who outscored the Raiders 19-13 in the fourth quarter. Laurel 56, Delmar 54: The Bulldogs edged the Wildcats in a Henlopen Southern Division showdown. Laurel’s Chucky Auguste netted 17 points, Marquez Pacheco had 15 and Gary Warren scored 13. Delmar missed a three-point shot at the buzzer. Kavon Trader had a game-high 21 points for the Wildcats with Shyheim Mitchell adding 15. Milford 58, Indian River 31: Son Martinez scored 21 points to spark the Buccaneers to the South win. Sussex Central 71, Moyer 62: The Golden Knights earned their third win of the season in the nonconference matchup. College basketball WOMEN, Delaware 70, Northeastern 61: Senior Joy Caracciolo and freshman Makeda Nicholas posted career nights as the Blue Hens rallied in the second half for the Colonial Athletic Association victory. Caracciolo recorded her second straight double-double with a career-high 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds while Nicholas tallied season-bests of 17 points four blocked shots. “We played very flat in the first half,” said coach Tina Martin, whose team won its third straight game. “Towards the middle of the second half, we buckled down. We executed offensively, got people to the foul line and put up some good looks. We are finally over .500 in the conference and now it’s going to continue to be a dogfight until the end.” Delaware (6-5 CAA, 11-11 overall) also received double-digit scoring from sophomore Erika Brown and junior Courtni Green, who put up 16 and 12 points, respectively. The Hens trailed by as many as 13 points in the opening half and were down 31-27 at halftime before a jumper from Nicholas and free throws from Caracciolo tied the game and then gave UD the lead for good just five minutes into the second half. Delaware made nine free throws in the final 1:08 to seal the victory over the Huskies (4-17, 1-10 CAA). The Hens have won 27 of the last 28 meetings with the Huskies (1-10, 4-17).
