Recreational marijuana sales begin Aug. 1 in Delaware. Do you view this as high time for the First State to sell the drug or do you believe that legalization is a new low? What concerns do you have about marijuana use?
It’s far less concerning than alcohol in my opinion. I’ve never seen a story where someone smokes a joint and abuses their family. I can’t say the same for alcohol. — Eric Porter
With those who use it as a mood enhancer/antidepressant, I have witnessed firsthand the abuse that comes along when they do not have it! Not pleasant at all, trust me! Traumatic. — Gina Giuliani
People using and abusing pain meds can now legally have a natural alternative to try. — Andy Jurewicz
People are already using it and have forever. I don’t want people getting in trouble and ruining their good record doing something that isn’t any worse than drinking. I’m happy it’s legalized, so we can make sure it is safe and take it off the black market. I’m happy it will be taxed and that the state can make some money off it; however, if it’s taxed too much, the black market will still be there, so the state can’t be greedy. Now that it’s legal, the state should stop testing for it for employment. — Richard Kerchevall
You lost me at “testing for it for employment.” So, you are OK with working with a stoned person? You can put your life on the line around them. I ain’t. — Michael Campbell
The drug tests are just intelligence tests for most companies. It sounds like you work with them high already. While I don’t support people being at work high, they shouldn’t be losing their jobs because they smoke joints after work. — Richard Kerchevall
Where does the line form? — Howard Brobst
I’m in my 70s and glad that the state legalized. I’d rather have a bunch of laid-back, happy people around me than a bunch of mean, nasty drunks. — Nancy Retkowski Cushman
Why not? This way, Delaware gets the tax, just like alcohol and cigarettes. Makes sense. — Bobbi Costello
If it lowers our school taxes, then I’m all for it. — Dorothy Owens-Sciarra
I’m fine with it. — Leslie Vinnedge Cournoyer
Great move, Delaware. — Matthew Maine
We have enough trouble with the prior legal substances. — Charles Miller
And what would that be? The alcohol that everyone hypocritically condones? People smoke cannabis, sit home and relax. — Ralph Foskey
Totally against it. — Debbie Gorab
Not a fan. — Sherry Buckingham Peck
I just want people to be responsible with it. Use it at home and nowhere else. — Matthew Fisher
The stigma around weed is so freaking ridiculous. It only became illegal in the first place because of racist thought processes. It’s a plant, but everyone thinks it’s better to fill their bodies with synthetic pharmaceuticals because those are legal. Silly. — Jackie Veal Cates
Just more money for politicians to pocket! — Freda Jess
Remember when they said, “If we build casinos, there will never be another school referendum”? — Bob Hice
The state already smells like a marijuana field. I get behind drivers all the time smoking that crap, and then, the smell is in my truck, and I gotta roll the windows down before I go through the Dover Air Force Base gates. It’s annoying. Instead of fighting against intoxication, the governor is promoting it. I have had quite a few friends start off with marijuana, and then, once that didn’t meet their expectations, they moved to harder drugs. A couple of them have passed away from overdoses. The state votes for stuff like this but turns a blind eye to any consequences from this crap. — Dylan Register
