Archmere jumped out to a five-goal halftime lead before downing Caesar Rodney High, 14-9, in girls’ lacrosse on Saturday.

The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Riders (5-5) while the Auks improved to 4-5. Archmere led 11-6 at halftime.

Delaney Steele netted five goals and two assists to pace CR with Jenna Rigby (2 assists) and Maegan Stewart scoring twice. Kaitlyn Longest made 13 saves for the Riders.

Cape Henlopen 16, Ursuline 7: The Vikings (7-3) outscored the Raiders, 9-4, in the first half en route to the victory.

BOYS, Archmere 18, Cape Henlopen 8: The Auks used a seven-goal third quarter to pull away.

Michael Hopkins and Erik-Stephane Stancofski netted two goals apiece for the Vikings with goalie Chris Argo making seven saves. Archmere outshot Cape, 36-19.

Girls’ soccer

Caesar Rodney 6, Indian River 1: The Riders (8-1) netted three unanswered goals in the second half in handing the Indians their first loss of the season.

Janiah Moore had two goals and an assist for CR with Grace Wilt, Cowan Cummings and Rebekah Bernat also scoring goals. Kristiana Stevens made seven saves.

Sarah Buchler scored for IR (8-1) with Fabrea McCray stopping 12 shots.

Archmere 4, Polytech 0: The Auks scored twice in each half to pick up the victory.

Archmere outshot the Panthers, 15-6.

Red Lion Christian 4, St. Thomas More 3: The Lions scored in overtime to edge the Ravens.

Alexis Swinford netted all three St. Thomas More goals, including one that tied the contest at the 68-minute mark. Erica Venezia made 14 saves as Red Lion held a 25-18 edge in shots.

Softball

Caesar Rodney 13, Middletown 2: Winning pitcher Janaya Harris homered as the Riders (6-3) won their sixth game in a row.

CR scored five runs in the top of the second inning to snap a 2-2 tie.

Padua 5, Milford 2: The Pandas scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to open up a 5-0 lead before holding off the Buccaneers.

Megan Fry hit a two-run homerun in the top of the sixth for Milford.

Woodbridge 4, Conrad 2: The Raiders won their second game in a row to improve to 4-3.

Baseball

Glasgow 11, Delmarva Christian 2: The Dragons scored in five of their six at-bats to pull away to the nonconference win.

College baseball

Delaware 17, William & Mary 14: The Blue Hens (17-15, 6-8 CAA), who downed the Tribe for the second straight day, scored six runs in the second inning and five more in the sixth of their Colonial Athletic Association win.

Delaware got grand slams from senior second baseman Zach Lopes and sophomore first baseman Nick Liggett on the way to the victory. Freshman right-hander Nick Spadafino (Dover) got the final three outs in the eighth and pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the win and improve to 3-0.

The Hens and Tribe combined for 31 runs, 37 hits, nine doubles, two triples, and six home runs in the slugfest. The 17 runs, 18 hits, and eight extra base hits were all season highs for Delaware and the 17 runs were the most by Delaware since 2013.

“This was definitely one of those crazy games we’ve seen here on this field over the years,” said Delaware coach Jim Sherman.

DelState wins twice: Lane DeLeon (Sussex Tech) pitched a two-hit shutout and Charles Dailey drove in five runs to lead Delaware State to a 17-0 win over Coppin.

In the second game of the MEAC twinbill, the Hornets scored 11 runs in the fourth inning en route to a 14-5 win.

In the opener, DeLeon (Sussex Tech) was one out away from a no-hitter but Coppin State first baseman Lance Montano singled to left for the Eagles’ first hit of the game. Alejando Hernandez followed with a single to center, but Dailey threw out Montano at the plate for the final out of the game to preserve the shutout.

DeLeon (4-4) struck out nine batters in his first career complete game and shutout. He has a team-high 65 Ks this season.

In the seven-inning nightcap, Justin Allen and Jake Bartlett knocked in three runs, while David Kimbrough and Onderko drove in two each for the Hornets. Allen and Kimbrough each had three hits in the contest.

College softball

Hornets win two more: Delaware State swept a MEAC doubleheader with Howard, 13-6, 12-7, to improve to 10-4 in the MEAC, 16-21 overall.

DelState had 25 hits as it extended its season-long winning streak to nine games, in addition to defeating the Bison for the 11th and 12th consecutive times.

In the opener, outfielder Nicole Gazzola, Jordan Stamps, infielder Danielle Velez and Dominique Little all tallied two hits, while Stamps finished with a game-high four RBI. Gazzola, who also stole two bases, scored a game-high three runs and extended her hit streak to a season-high 12 games.

In the nightcap, every Hornet in the starting lineup record a hit, led by Sandy Hawthorne going 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Hofstra sweeps Hens: Delaware mustered just four hits on the day as the Blue Hens dropped a pair of 8-0 decisions to Hofstra in a Colonial Athletic Association twinbill.

The Pride improved to 29-11-1 overall and 13-3 in the CAA while Delaware dropped to 27-20 overall and 5-11.

College lacrosse

MEN, Delaware 10, Massachusetts 9: The Blue Hens went out on a high note Friday night  with the win in their season finale.

Sophomore midfielder Jackson Finigan scored a career-high four goals, including the game-winner with 41 seconds left to send Delaware (5-10, 1-4 CAA) to its first league win of the season. The win also snapped a five-game losing streak for Delaware.
