A tour of the new Frederick D. Thomas Middle School on Tuesday wasn’t exactly quiet. At Cape Henlopen School District’s third middle school, principal David Frederick said there were teachers and administrators in the building, as well as meetings of all kinds. But there were also cranes, workers and a sense of motion, as several hundred people worked to prepare the school for its grand opening.
In mid-July, the Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission held open the public record for the proposed 758-home Northstar development to hear input from the Cape Henlopen School District.
Opinion
I respect the opinion of Dover City Councilman Brian E. Lewis about needing solutions for Dover’s recent shootings (“Solutions needed after rash of shootings in Dover”). But I think we need to think outside the box and come up with solutions that are needed to end the gun violence not only in Dover but in our country.
I strongly agree with Dan Shortridge’s encouraging a photo history of Delaware (“We need a Delaware Photographers’ Project”).
We are all aware of the ridiculous amounts of money that the federal government was offering states during the pandemic. Many of those states, including Delaware, used the money to increase unemployment benefits, far exceeding any amounts paid in the past, and to continue those payments far longer.
OPINION
I think everyone should be allowed to vote in primaries regardless of party (“Question of the Week: Should all voters be eligible for primaries?”).
OPINION
Associated Builders and Contractors’ Delaware chapter is an organization that represents the construction industry — a lifeblood of Delaware’s economy and one that, for years, has driven economic growth in the state and nationally. The industry provides a direct pathway to personal prosperity and the ability to earn a high-quality living without the burden of excessive college debt.
OPINION
If you believe our children deserve a high-quality education and our public school educators deserve to be treated with dignity, state Sen. Kyle Evans Gay, D-Talleyville, is your best choice as Delaware’s next lieutenant governor.
