PRINCESS ANNE — A “Be Smart . . . Drench Smart” Small Ruminant Integrated Parasite Management workshop is scheduled for Saturday, April 8, at the swine facility on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Beginning at 9 a.m., Dr. E. Nelson Escobar will provide instruction involving the use of the FAMACHA© score card to mitigate or manage parasite burdens common to small ruminants.

During the all-day workshop, participants will study anthelmintic resistance, gastrointestinal parasites that badger small sheep and goats and practices to mitigate or manage parasite burdens.  The 3-hour morning session will serve as an introduction for the 3 to 4 hour afternoon hands-on session, which will offer certification on the use of the FAMACHA© score card.  The day ends at 4 p.m.
