WESTOVER — Michael Bartemy of Crisfield is Somerset County Public Schools’ new Supervisor of Transportation and Operations, succeeding Gregory Sutton. He was hired to teach HVAC at the J.M. Tawes Technology & Career Center in August 2015, and had been covering facilities issues for Daniele Haley, supervisor Of Facilities & Capital Planning, while recently out on maternity leave.

Mr. Baremy, whose wife Tracie is Director of Schools, has held numerous technical, managerial and supervisory positions in the heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration field over the last 32 years. He was an area maintenance supervisor for Food Lion Inc., responsible for 142 stores and 150 contractors in a four-state area. He also served as sales and serve manager for Delmarva Oil, and later purchased Eastern Shore Refrigeration which he served as president and general manager.

Given his background in management on a large scale he applied and was hired for the position of Supervisor of Transportation and Operations. When asked about the strengths he has seen in Somerset County Schools, Mr. Bartemy said, “The people… SCPS is blessed to have such a committed group of people working together for the benefit of the residents of Somerset County. The size of the school system allows for a personal connection within all the different departments and it’s a great feeling to be part of this team.

His goals are to get to know all of the bus contractors, substitute drivers and aides.  “The Transportation Department is blessed to have a knowledgeable staff that is committed to the safe transportation of students,” he said. “We have an awesome group of contractors, many who have shown such a willingness to offer any assistance necessary to help me get settled into my new roll. With what I’ve seen so far, I am excited for this opportunity.”
