Photo Gallery: Delaware Defense Day
By Glenn RolfeLEWES – Delaware Defense Day, a living history event that celebrates the World War II victory over Nazi Germany, brought WWII reenactors, military vehicles and weapons, barracks life, hands-on demonstrations, museum tours and many spectators to Fort Miles at Cape Henlopen State Park on Saturday.
Among the highlights were artillery firings, a British Sexton artillery vehicle, and the reenacted surrender of German submarine U-858 – the first enemy ship to surrender to U.S. forces following the defeat of Germany. The actual surrender occurred on May 14, 1945 at Fort Miles.
