REHOBOTH BEACH — Four adults reported to be within the residence at the 19000 block of Norwood Street when it came under fire early Thursday morning escaped without injury, but the house and nearby vehicles sustained several direct hits according to Delaware State Police.

Troopers responded to the residence close to 1 a.m. Thursday, after being alerted to a report of shots fired. The neighborhood lies just east of Coastal Highway, close to the intersection where 1B splits off toward downtown Rehoboth Beach.

Like a lot of Sussex County, it’s a mixture of commercial and residential uses, with some properties undergoing rapid redevelopment, while others are neglected. Unlike a lot of Sussex County, it’s relatively isolated and somewhat separate from the areas surrounding it.

Several bullet holes in the house are visible to the naked eye from the public street, with at least two near the front entrance, at least two on the front of the house, and several other possible strikes also at the front.

Delaware State Police reported they had no motive and no suspect description at this time.

Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Detectives are still investigating this shooting. Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed or has information regarding this case to contact Detective K. Wideman by calling 302-752-3832. Information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
