Myers, Maull-Martin to continue on Cape Henlopen school board

At large, District C representative unopposed

LEWES — With the filing deadline at the beginning of the month, Thursday was the first and only meeting of the Cape Henlopen School District Board of Education in March, and was the opportunity for members to acknowledge no one filed to oppose Dr. Alison Myers, board president and Janet Maull-Martin of District C.

“It’s very exciting for the district, and very exciting for me, and we’re very fortunate,” superintendent Dr. Bob Fulton said. “Thank you for hanging with us and doing this again.”

The incumbents are up for reelection again in 2028.

“I’m excited the dream team gets to stay together. I think one of the keys to success is having a board that gets along, and has been together for a significant amount of time,” Dr. Myers said.

Dr. Fulton, after outlining the many meetings he’s held making the case for the March 26 funding referendum, said the local community is very involved, and the candidates would certainly be opposed if they weren’t achieving success.

“That no one even filed against the two candidates means even more to me,” he said.

Dr. Myers is a former special education teacher who holds a bachelor’s degree in economics, a master’s degree in education, and a doctorate in educational leadership, all from the University of Delaware. She was first elected to the board of education in 2014 and was re-elected in 2019. Dr. Myers has served as the board vice president from 2015 to 2018 and the board president from 2018 to present.

Ms. Maull-Martin is a 1970 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School and spent 35 years working in the Cape Henlopen School District. She has been a classroom teacher, title one coordinator, assistant principal at H.O. Brittingham Elementary School, assistant principal at Cape Henlopen High School and principal of Richard Shields Elementary School.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve once again. Having my seat unopposed I hope means the community is satisfied with my service as a voice with valued input on important decisions that concern our district and as an advocate for students, staff and community,” Ms. Maull-Martin said.
