Sussex County's La Red launches logo reflecting commitment to community

Posted

GEORGETOWN — La Red Health Center has been providing access to health care in Sussex County since 2001.

In the beginning, La Red — which means the “network” in Spanish — focused on helping the growing Spanish-speaking community who found it difficult to access care to connect with providers.

Over its 23-year existence, La Red has grown exponentially and now has offices in Georgetown, Seaford and Milford, providing care for just under 14,000 patients.

It serves not only those from the Latino community but also a growing number of Haitian Creole individuals.

Because of the genesis of La Red and Sussex County, the former logo of the community holding up a globe no longer felt representative. In 2023, its leadership decided to develop a new logo.

The La Red team engaged a community of people to workshop a symbol that better demonstrates what La Red is as an organization and its legacy, commitment and passion for serving the underserved.

The new logo features a tree with a heart at its core, symbolizing love and compassion. Its trunk is formed by hands, portraying strength and support, as they lift the canopy upward. Firmly rooted in the ground, the logo embodies resilience and stability. The tag line is “Rooted in Community.”

The colors are navy blue, sea green and burgundy, carried over from the original logo. The blue and green represent the ocean and bay that surround Sussex County.

“La Red’s new logo is a better representation of who we are as an organization,” said CEO Brian Olson. “La Red is here to serve all members of our community. Our new logo does a much better job of illustrating that.”

The agency plans to hold a tree-planting ceremony in April, Earth Month, to celebrate the logo by planting literal roots, supporting environmental justice and taking one step of many to honor the county agencies that pulled together to form La Red’s roots years ago.

“We love our new logo,” said deputy director Rachel Hersh. “It embodies our past, our present and our future growth in the communities that we serve. We hope that our patients and partners agree that we are indeed rooted in the community and invested in their health.”
