GUMBORO — A 20-year-old Georgetown man died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday, Delaware State Police said.

Police said the man was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado at approximately 1:18 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve and exited Careys Camp Road just north of Little Hill Road. The Chevrolet traveled a short distance through a wet grassy area, struck a tree, and ultimately came to rest after striking another tree, police said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. On Monday, police identified the victim as Dereck Wong.

The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues investigating this incident. Anyone who witnessed the crash was asked to contact Senior Cpl. J. Smith by calling 302-703-3267. Information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
