Cambridge: Teen shot in back

CAMBRIDGE – Police are investigating an Aug. 20 attack, in which a 17-year-old juvenile was shot.

At approximately 12:11 p.m., Cambridge Police Department officers responded to the 700 block of High Street in reference to a “Shot Spotter Alert” for multiple shots being fired. Upon officers’ arrival in the area, they were informed by Dorchester County Emergency Services that a shooting victim had just arrived at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Cambridge (UMSMC).

While some CPD officers went to the hospital, others at the High Street scene found a vehicle that had been damaged by gunfire. Prior to the “Shot Spotter Alert”, CPD officers had been notified of a blue/green Hyundai Genesis with Delaware registration that had been observed driving recklessly in the Greenwood Avenue area.

It was also reported that the vehicle was being driven by three African-American male juveniles. This vehicle also matched the description of a vehicle that had been observed in the area of High Street at the time of the “Shot Spotter Alert”, a report from the CPD said.

Investigation revealed that the shooting victim was a passenger in a vehicle traveling down High Street when shots were fired, striking the car and the victim’s upper back. The youth was treated at UMSMC prior to being air lifted to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore with non-life-threatening injuries.
