Bayhealth celebrates Match Day

Posted

DOVER — Bayhealth celebrated Match Day on March 15, pairing new physicians with its Graduate Medical Education programs.

The health system matched 30 doctors to its four residencies — Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine and General Surgery.

In its fourth year, the Family Medicine Residency Program matched with eight residents, and the Internal Medicine Residency Program matched with 13. The 2-year-old Emergency Medicine program paired with six residents, while General Surgery, in its third year, matched with three doctors.

These initiatives allow new physicians to gain more experience over the next three to five years by working in the hospital setting, as well as taking part in community-based practices.

Bayhealth partners with several regional medical schools, including Drexel University and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. It also has served as a Core Clinical Campus for PCOM for five years.

One of the highlights of Bayhealth’s graduate programs is the state-of-the-art Simulation Center at the Philadelphia college. Opened in 2022, the center has enhanced the training experience for residents, clinical teams and staff.

“Our Sim Center has added tremendously to our ability to offer our residents, as well as a host of clinical teams and medical students who rotate here at Bayhealth, the latest in technology and simulation equipment to elevate their training,” said chief medical officer and GME designated institutional official Dr. Gary Siegelman.

The facility provides residents access to technology and simulation equipment, allowing them to gain hands-on experience in a controlled environment. It ensures that Bayhealth’s residents receive the highest quality education and are well prepared to provide exceptional care.

As this is Bayhealth’s fourth Match Day, doctors from its inaugural residencies of Family Medicine and Internal Medicine will be graduating this spring. Several of them will be continuing their careers within the health system, while others will start fellowship programs to advance their training.
