Man charged after Dewey Beach restaurant disturbance

Posted

DEWEY BEACH — A 37-year-old Ocean City, Maryland, man faces aggravated-menacing and weapons offenses after a disturbance at a restaurant Saturday.

At approximately 10:02 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to The Starboard, 2009 Coastal Highway, for a report of a disorderly person. A trooper attempted to assist employees with removing him, but he refused to comply, authorities said.

Subsequently, the suspect, identified as Matthew Slentz, brandished a concealed razor blade from his hooded shirt and lunged at the trooper, police said.

He continued to refuse verbal commands to comply and was taken into custody after a stun gun was used, police said.

A search of his person led to the recovery of the razor blade, as well as a concealed switchblade knife, police said. Neither the trooper nor any patrons were injured.

Mr. Slentz was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, carrying a concealed deadly weapon (two counts) and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $22,050 secured bond.
