The Wicomico County Council has selected seven residents with diverse backgrounds to serve on a Redistricting Commission that will draw new district lines for the 2022 election.
The panel is charged with preparing a public plan that will ultimately be sent to the County Council for approval.
According to the County Charter, the commission must produce councilmanic districts that are reasonably compact, contiguous and substantially equal in population.
Wicomico has five geographic districts and two at-large seats.
The commission is expected to conclude its work by the end of the calendar year, relying upon data from the latest U.S. Census.

The Redistricting Commission becomes the second high-profile citizen body at work within the county government.
The county’s Charter Review Committee has been meeting monthly since winter to recommend possible changes to the charter.
