PITTSVILLE — On March 7, 2024, detectives from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 7000 block of Gumboro Road in Pittsville following a check welfare call for 45-year-old Christopher James Wilgus Jr.

Upon arrival, detectives made contact with Wilgus and discovered what appeared to be homemade explosive devices strategically placed throughout the yard and property. Wilgus expressed concerns about potential attacks on his residence and cited the presence of drones and individuals surveilling him.

During questioning, Wilgus revealed alarming details about the homemade explosive devices in plain view.

The Maryland State Fire Marshals responded and confirmed the authenticity of the explosive/incendiary devices. Samples of each device were collected for further analysis.

Notably, Wilgus resides in the garage and motorhome on the property.

Due to the gravity of the situation, detectives arrested Wilgus, transporting him to the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office. Wilgus was then transported and released to the Wicomico County Detention Center. Wilgus was held without bond, but will have another bond hearing on March 8.

Detectives authored and executed a Search and Seizure Warrant at the property. All remaining devices were rendered safe and removed from the property. The area is found to be safe from any other threats.

At this time the investigation is ongoing.
