GEORGETOWN — Gotta have a Wawa?

If so, you’re in luck, as a link in the convenience store’s chain is heading to the heart of Sussex County.

The recent closing of Auto Pros on northbound U.S. 113 in Georgetown is making way for commercial development — including a Wawa branch.

Georgetown Mayor Bill West said the store will be built at the intersection of U.S. 113 and Edward Street, at the former site of Auto Pros. As of yet, there is no timetable for construction to begin, he added.

“That is all going to be tore down. Wawa is going on that corner,” said Mayor West.

The Wawa will have fueling stations, as well as electric car-charging stations, according to the mayor.

“I think it’s going to be a nice one,” he added.

Wawa is just one piece of the Silicato Development commercial plan for that area, Mayor West said.

Just north of the future Wawa, there are plans for a car wash. And property to the north of the car wash is earmarked for an auto parts store.

“Those are the three entities that are supposed to be going on that parcel,” said Mayor West.

Additionally, plans include a road connection from North Street to Edward Street, providing backside access to these businesses, he said.

“So there will be a new road put in there for people to be able to get to things,” he said.

Wawa Inc. — born from a family dairy-processing operation in Wawa, Pennsylvania — is a growing chain of more than 850 convenience stores (with over 600 offering gas). There are locations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C., according to the company’s website.

Wawa dots the Delaware map from top to bottom, with stores in Dover, Smyrna, Camden, Milford, Millsboro, Bridgeville, Delmar, Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach.

The company’s newest store in Delaware is under construction in Seaford, at Tharp Road and northbound Sussex Highway, next to Grotto Pizza. A fall opening is planned.
