The ignorance shown by whomever wrote the item about the Towers Festival is remarkable (Best Bets, Nov. 3).
The statement that the towers were built during World War II to monitor German U-boats is totally wrong. No one can see boats that are underwater!
Towers like the ones on the Delaware coast were built along sections of the Atlantic, Gulf and West coasts to protect against German surface ships.
I recommend that whoever wrote that article visit Fort Miles in Cape Henlopen State Park for an education on the history of the towers and how they functioned to aim big guns to defend our coast.
