CAMDEN - A 21-year-old Viola man was arrested on weapon and drug charges following a traffic stop Wednesday night.

At approximately 8:07 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a black Dodge Charger traveling southbound on U.S. 13 in the area of POW-MIA Parkway. The Charger was outfitted with dark front and rear window tinting, and a computer check showed that the vehicle did not have a tint waiver, police said.

A traffic stop was conducted on U.S. 13 in the area of Caboose Road, police said, and contact was made with the driver, identified as Collin Shockley. A strong odor of marijuana was allegedly emitting from the vehicle’s interior, and police say the trooper noticed a rifle in plain view inside of the Charger.

Mr. Shockley was subsequently taken into custody at the scene without incident. Police say a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 17.02 grams of marijuana, an American Tactical assault rifle and a Sig Sauer handgun.

Mr. Shockley was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm while possessing a controlled substance (two counts), possession of marijuana, failure to have insurance identification in possession, and operating a vehicle with proper window tinting. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and released on his own recognizance.
