SILVER SPRING – For the first time since 1996, Cambridge-South Dorchester High School boys’ basketball will have a chance to play for the state title.
On Tuesday, Head Coach Shawn Tucker posted online, “With a hard fought 60-53 win over Fort Hill we win the State Semi-Finals and move on to the 1A State Championship...Let’s Go!”
Top-seeded C-SD was led in Tuesday’s match by Lashaun Moody, who scored 18 points. He was followed by Koby Ennals, with 13.
Ennals reached a milestone of his own, scoring his 1,000th point during the game, a notable achievement for a player who is still a junior.
The Vikings will face second-seeded Edmondson Westside High School for the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association’s Class 1A State Title at XFINITY Center at the University of Maryland – College Park on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Vikings took a commanding lead in the second quarter, ending the first half ahead by 17, 37-20.
Fort Hill didn’t falter, though – in fact, the Sentinels outscored the Vikes in the second half, 33-23. But a late 8-0 run by C-SD held off the challenge, giving the Vikings the win.
The Vikings will take an 11-game winning streak and an overall record of 25-2 into the championship, having outscored their opponents 1,990 to 1,280 over the course of the season.
Edmondson-Westside beat Smithsburg in the other semi-final last weekend, 75-59. On Saturday in a home game, the Vikings beat CMIT North, 74-58 in the Quarter Finals.
Tickets for the championship game go on sale Thursday at noon on Gofan.com.
