NEWARK — The University of Delaware’s Center for Political Communication will host two debates this week featuring candidates on the Nov. 5 general election ballot.

The first pair of debates will take place Wednesday, with the U.S. House of Representatives debate set for 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the U.S. Senate debate to follow at 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Those candidates include Democrat Sarah McBride and Republican John Whalen for the U.S. House seat, and Democrat Lisa Blunt Rochester and Republican Eric Hansen for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Sen. Tom Carper.

The debate will take place in Mitchell Hall - which features a 635-seat theater - on the University of Delaware main campus in Newark before a live audience. Individuals interested in attending the congressional debates can register by visiting the Delaware Debates landing page at cpc.udel.edu/events/delaware-debates/.

On Thursday, Delaware gubernatorial candidates – Democrat Matt Meyer and Republican Mike Ramone – will debate at Mitchell Hall at 6 p.m. The debate will not be held in front of a live audience but will be livestreamed. A link to the stream can be found on the Delaware Debates landing page at the above link.

Ralph Begleiter, the founding director of the University’s Center for Political Communication and a former CNN journalist, will return to the University of Delaware to moderate the debates.

The university is holding these debates in collaboration with Delaware Public Media, which is producing a series of “Candidate Conversations” with candidates ahead of Nov. 5. These conversations can be found at delawarepublic.org.
