PRINCESS ANNE — This summer, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra’s (BSO) Music for Maryland tour makes its 2024 return, delivering eight performances across the state.

Each concert promises a unique sonic journey through both time-honored classics and modern favorites, embodying the orchestra's artistic range and diversity.

The BSO will visit the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Ella Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center on Thursday, July 18 to perform a 90-minute concert starting at 7 p.m. Admission to the concert is pay-what-you-wish, and reservations are highly encouraged.

The BSO's performance at UMES is the only one being held at a Historically Black College and University in Maryland, and one of only a handful of performances that will include the full orchestra in the BSO's tour across the state.

“This is a truly special opportunity for the UMES and Eastern Shore communities to celebrate what makes this such a special place," said UMES President Heidi M. Anderson. "We're grateful to the BSO for this opportunity and encourage everyone in our area — whether you're a part of UMES or not — to come join us on July 18th for a truly unique evening of music and celebration."

The Music for Maryland tour, launched in 2022, is a bold initiative by the BSO to reach every corner of Maryland over three years transforming the joy of music into tangible experiences beyond the halls of the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall and Music Center at Strathmore.

This statewide endeavor underscores the BSO's commitment to musical outreach and inclusivity, supported by the Maryland General Assembly under the leadership of Sen. Guy Guzzone, Del. Ben Barnes, and the Moore administration. Additional support is provided by the PNC Bank Foundation. In honor of the leadership gifts of Robert E. Meyerhoff and Rheda Becker, all Music for Maryland concerts will once again be recognized as Robert E. Meyerhoff & Rheda Becker Community Performances.

“Music for Maryland is about transforming our commitment into tangible experiences, bringing the joy of music to every corner of Maryland," said Mark Hanson, president, and CEO of the BSO. "We are thankful to our partners in Somerset County for their support in hosting our esteemed and talented musicians as we look for new ways to serve our community statewide.”

There are additional performances starting July 9 in Dorchester County with other Eastern Shore stops in Caroline, Talbot, Worcester, and Wicomico counties.
