SEAFORD — TidalHealth Nanticoke honored four employees as Team Members of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2023.

Stephen “Steve” Hitchens of the accounting division is the Team Member of the Quarter for Administrative and Support Services. He started at TidalHealth Nanticoke in June 1976, working in every job in the department, including payroll, taking direct deposits to the bank, general ledger and accounts payable. Mr. Hitchens is known throughout the hospital as the “Candy Man” because he spends his own money to make sure staffers can satisfy their candy needs.

MaryAnne “Mimi” Clark of the respiratory care department is the Team Member of the Quarter for Professional Services. Ms. Clark started her career at the hospital in February 2022. Quick critical thinking skills are mandatory as a respiratory therapist, and she thinks outside the box and gives the best care to her patients, TidalHealth stated.

Vanessa “Dawn” Chaffinch of the Emergency Department is a Team Member of the Quarter for Nursing Services. Ms. Chaffinch is friendly, kind, compassionate and caring, and these traits are reflected in the way she takes care of her patients, her colleagues said. In her role, she has occasions to sit with some of the same people during repeat visits. She builds a rapport with them, which helps the patients during their stays. Some specifically request Ms. Chaffinch, and she is willing to come in on a day off if she knows one of her regulars is visiting.

Registered nurse Melissa Wheedleton of the Progressive Care Unit is another Team Member of the Quarter for Nursing Services. Ms. Wheedleton has a great demeanor that allows her to joke with staff, while encouraging a positive flow of work on the unit, TidalHealth said. She is dedicated to the PCU staff, patients and the organization.
