GEORGETOWN — The Sussex Conservation District will host free stormwater workshops on the second Wednesdays of September, October and November from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Vanderwende-Evans Conservation Center, 23818 Shortly Road.

Seating is limited, so registration is encouraged. Virtual attendance will be available.

The series is designed to provide property owners, homeowners associations and property maintenance companies an introduction to stormwater management, drainage, and community and open space enhancement.

The first event, “Stormwater 101,” will be Sept. 13. Jessica Watson will cover the history of sediment and stormwater regulations in Delaware, as well as stormwater facilities and their function, maintenance and best management practices. This course has been approved for one Delaware nutrient management credit.

“Ditches and Invasive Species” will be the topic Oct. 11, providing information on the history of tax ditches and the enhancement and management of drainage infrastructure. Wes Allen, the Sussex Conservation District’s tax ditch program manager, will provide an overview of Delaware’s tax ditches, and “Simplifying Designer Ditches” will be presented by John Sandkuhler, Nanticoke Watershed Alliance’s restoration coordinator. Plus, Blake Moore will talk about “Right of Way Invasive Plant Management.”

“Community Enhancement and Funding Opportunities” will be held Nov. 8. Beth Wasden, deputy director of the Nanticoke Watershed Alliance, will discuss converting lawns to meadows, while Taryn Davidson, the Delaware Department of Agriculture’s Urban and Community Forestry Program acting director, will review forestry grant programs.

For information or to register, visit www.sussexconservation.org/events or call Siobhan Kelley, communications and outreach specialist for the district, at 302-856-2105, ext. 122.
