St. Philip’s, Quantico, outlines 2024 guest lecture series

QUANTICO — The Guest Lecture Series at the parish hall at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church (6457 Quantico Road, Quantico, MD 21856) is a community outreach project, free to the public.

Meetings take place in the parish hall at 1 p.m. on the second Monday of the month except for December, which has two days of wreath-making. Light after noon refreshments are included.

Note on the schedule description that registration is required for the months of November and December. Also, note you are invited to bring an item for July (a “find” and a vase) and for August (a wardrobe accessory). In September, you may register a request for a hymn (by Aug. 9).

The schedule:

  • April 8 — Nancy Mitchell, Poet Laureate of Salisbury, for National Poetry Month, will discuss why poetry matters and read her works.
  • May 13 — Ginny Rosenkranz will talk about edible flowers and spring flowers. Rosenkranz is the principal agent for U. of Md Extension Service
  • June 10 — Heather Brooks is the city of Salisbury’s Secretary of Kindness (kindSBY). Brooks will share how kindness developed from the city of Salisbury into a global program. Participants will create and/or copy goodwill notes. Brooks also works for the S.U. Center for Entrepreneurship.
  • July 8 — Quantico Roadshow with St. Philip’s Vestry members Nancy Hall, Troy Johnson and Andrea Williams will help attendants identify their antiquing/thrifting treasures and provide some crafting ideas to utilize their finds. Bring your unresearched treasure. Also, bring a plain vase.
  • August 12 — Accessorize Your Wardrobe with Elaine Wallingford-wannabe stylist, member of St. Philip’s and retired teacher. Bring a favorite accessory item to share.
  • September 9 — Hymn-a-Long with Daniel Cherrix, St. Philip’s organist. Requests for a special hymn can be sent by Aug. 9 to above phone number or email. Cherrix will give origins of hymns and lead the singing and fun. Cherrix is also an agent for Long and Foster.
  • October 14 — Tom Stroshein & associates from UMD Bay-Wise Program will help you make your landscape more environmentally sound
  • November 11 — Holiday Bake Ahead Items with samples and recipes from the ladies of
    St. Philip’s.
  • December 9, 10 — Live Wreath Making with St Philip’s designers.
