CAMBRIDGE - Dorchester Center for the Arts will present several new programs, classes and workshops for the fall session, beginning in September. New offerings include:

“Introduction to Digital Photography” with Robert Sullivan: This class is designed to teach the basics of digital photography. Learn the functions needed to take control of the camera: aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure modes, white balance, depth of field, etc. This class is appropriate for DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. The class will run four Saturdays, Sept. 3-24, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Monotypes Workshop with Sheryl Southwick: Southwick presents a two-part monotypes workshop. Think of painting backward on a sheet of plastic, then transferring the image to paper. It is always a wonderful surprise to see what happens. Southwick will demonstrate and teach the basics of several methods of making these one-of-a-kind works of art. Beginners are welcome. Two-part workshop: Sept. 22 and 29, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Evening of Readings with Johns Hopkins University: The Writing Seminars Program Faculty and Mary McCoy, Environment Artist and Writer: On Oct. 1, 7-9 p.m., the public is invited to enjoy an evening of poetry and prose with Lysley Tenorio, associate research professor, JHU; Bruce Snider, senior lecturer, JHU; Shannon Robinson, senior lecturer and director of IFP; James Arthur, associate professor and director of graduate studies; and Mary McCoy, environment artist and writer, and DCA exhibition artist.

Designing with Line and Wash in Watercolor Paint with Marianne Kost: This class is for both beginning and experienced painters who want to explore creative approaches to design.

Students will design compositions using contour line, to serve as practice sheets for exploring watercolor techniques that include graded wash, layered wash, wet into wet painting, application of texture, and use of white intervals. Brush application will also be explored to practice the use of both hard and soft edges to create dimensional effects. Exercises will also cover color theory using a limited palette. This six-week class meets Saturdays, 2-4:30 p.m., Nov. 5 to Dec. 17.
