Speak Up: US Wind CEO says there's no basis to deny application

Posted

A US Wind leader is sharing his disappointment after Sussex County Council denied a zoning application from the company Dec. 17, 2024. Despite the recommendation for approval by the Planning & Zoning Commission, council members voted 4-1 to deny the request. If approved, it would have allowed the company to use a former electric substation owned and operated by Indian River Power as a substation for its projects. It’s located in Dagsboro.

  • There is an absolute basis to deny, just as the four council members stated. It was presented as a Maryland project, which it is. It creates no permanent jobs for Sussex County, and most importantly, it will destroy the Indian River Bay and 3Rs Beach for a Maryland project. There is no benefit for Sussex County, only risk. Most coastal towns have been offered $2 million each, with the stipulation that they do not stop, hinder or badmouth the project. If they do, they have to return the (hush) money. The Delaware Center for the Inland Bays definitely took the money and was granted hush money by the federal government for its silence. I guess foreign-owned US Wind forgot to pay off Sussex County Council, or just maybe, council did the right thing: turned down the money and did what the people of Sussex County wanted. I applaud Sussex County Council and the mayor of Fenwick Island for not taking money and standing up to this sleazy
