NASCAR made its way to Chicago the first weekend of July for its first Cup Series street race, part of a three-year deal with the city. A 12-turn, 2.2-mile course wended its way through downtown, contributing to long-term road closures and parking restrictions in the area, as the track was being built. Adding to the unpredictability, drivers didn’t have much time on the course before each race. Where else would you like to see street races held?
- I know that, for other types of race cars, street racing, like in Europe, is exciting to some. But my opinion is it is not NASCAR. Not our origins. NASCAR needs to stay on the tracks. And, if they want something different, go back to the beginning: Race on the beach of Daytona, Florida. Now that would be exciting. — Denise Sloboda Deskiewicz
