Kent County Levy Court recently nixed a proposed solar complex that would have replaced farmland and considered a moratorium on future facilities. Instead, it has begun drafting an ordinance so the county will have more say over potential construction. Where do you think new solar complexes should be built?
- I think it is better to use previous farmland for solar fields than it is to actually cut down current trees to make a space for them. I have traveled in Sussex County, Delaware, where there are farm fields full of solar panels. I have seen energy windmills in Lewes (University of Delaware), on the hilltops in Pennsylvania and New York, and off the coasts, and to me, they are beautiful! What could be better than creating the power we need without depending on fossil fuel or other countries? The sun and wind are free resources, and using it can only bring down the costs of powering our homes, businesses and vehicles. Why do we continue to be “held up” by other countries, oil companies and the coal/gas industries, when we could simply get the energy we need from the sun? Let’s retrain the current fuel industry workers to build and service solar and wind power and stop dillydallying! — Ruth Ashby
Reaction to letter asking about your vote
If the presidential election were tomorrow, would you vote for Biden/Harris?
- As opposed to voting for who? I’d vote for them again in a heartbeat. As with the last Democratic president, the GOP’s stated main goal is to stand in the way of anything the Democratic president wants to do, to hell with the country. The only Republican I’d even consider voting for, maybe, is Larry Hogan. At least he uses his brain and common sense. One of the shrinking number of Republicans who still live in the real world. — Steve Caporiccio
