Speak Up: Regulation of new mask policy unknown in Delaware

Posted

Masks will be coming off for fully vaccinated individuals Friday, but how that will be enforced remains to be seen. Delaware will be adopting guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which says those who are fully vaccinated (two weeks removed from their last dose of a COVID-19 vaccine series) can go without a mask in public, both indoors and outdoors. Those who are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated still should wear masks, according to the guidance. Concerns have been raised from those who say there’s no easy way for businesses and others to determine who is fully vaccinated and who is not. Instead, many will have to rely on an honor system.

  • Unvaccinated “should” wear the mask, not “shall.” My choice is nope! — Howard Gaines III
  • Absolutely no consideration given to those of us who had the virus. We have natural antibodies, unlike those who received a shot with manufactured antibodies, if, in fact, that is even true. There is no proof whatsoever that a person who gets the shot will be immune to getting the virus, let alone spreading it. — Diane Ivey
  • Will your antibodies last as long as those who have gotten the vaccine? And how do you know there is no proof? — Dale Bert
  • There is no proof because it hasn’t been a year for any of this. Whatever side you choose should be your choice, not the government’s. — Nikki Robinson Wilson
  • We have tests that show how immune someone is to something. If you are saying, does a vaccine last more than a year, that’s true — that’s not clear. But a newly vaccinated person? They have a lot of data about what their immunity response ends up being. — Dale Bert
