Speak Up: How does your garden grow?

Along with full-time jobs and raising a family, Patrick and Chantel Helmick, owners of Helmick’s Homestead, raise vegetables, too. They sell crops, such as radishes, cauliflower, kale, Swiss chard, zucchini and broccoli, that are grown in their three-quarter-acre garden. Their aim is fresh, wholesome and “nutritionally dense” food. What’s growing in your garden this year?

  • For my entire life, we planted an acre of tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, corn and flowers galore. We are 70 now and can barely walk. So our acre is beautiful grass, and every Saturday, we go to the Milford farmers market. But in front of my home are still gorgeous flowers. — Denise Sloboda Deskiewicz
