Speak Up: Dover introduces shopping cart management ordinance

Posted

During the Nov. 26 Dover City Council Committee of the Whole meeting, city manager Dave Hugg introduced an ordinance that would add a section to code regarding abandoned shopping carts. “What this is proposing is a registration process for shopping carts, an ability to find the owner of the shopping cart if they’re not removed in a certain period of time and authorizing us to collect them and dispose of them if they’re not collected by the company,” he said.

  • So, who becomes the cart cop, catching folks walking away with them? They do little about shoplifting. — Howard Gaines III
  • It occurred to me that, soon, there will be no carts. Then, we’ll have to bring our own to the store, along with our bags. — Bob Hice
  • Any stores reading this, I will bounty your carts for $10 each. — Karma Coming
  • They’re going to fine the stores, not the thieves of the carts. — Natascha M. Ward
  • So, they are going to fine the stores for people stealing their carts. How about stopping the people on the street pushing a cart and charging them? But that’s another issue. — I’am Wright
