Speak Up: Delaware Senate, Delmarva Power discuss consumers’ rising energy costs

Posted

Senate lawmakers and Delmarva Power representatives convened for a special meeting Feb. 14 to address the significant rise in customers’ bills, though senators clashed over renewable energy’s role in the increase. The Senate Environment, Energy & Transportation Committee’s gathering came on the heels of recent communication between lawmakers in both houses of the General Assembly, Delmarva Power and the state’s public advocate regarding the costs, which have more than doubled for some constituents.

  • We keep hearing about the rates from Delmarva Power. What about the other electric companies in Delaware? I live in Dover and get electricity through the city. My December 2024 bill was at least twice what it normally is, and my January bill was three times normal. I am a senior citizen and on a fixed income. I can’t afford this! — Kathy Schuitemaker
