Speak Up: Calls for a Delaware inspector general coming to light

Posted

The recent indictment of Delaware’s state auditor has spurred a new drive to create an Inspector General’s Office.

  • It only adds another layer to bureaucracy. Right now, the current interaction between McGuiness and Jennings should be resolved by the governor. McGuiness should be investigated, but Jennings should recuse herself or be removed from the situation because of her comments already in the press and in the public because they are unprofessional. Delaware started McGuiness’ position in the 1930s, and this is the first time (recorded) that there has been any issue with the auditor. I think it’s something that the governor’s office should handle, and if it’s deemed illegal, then remanded to the AG by the governor, not started with the AG. — Debi Jarrell
