Lotteries should limit the maximum amount of money a person can win to $2 million and divide jackpots exceeding $2 million among multiple winners.
Two individuals recently split a $1.79 billion Powerball jackpot. Each of them is eligible to receive annual payments totaling $893.5 million before taxes.
It’s crazy to give $893.5 million to one person. Instead, 447 people could have each won $1,998,881, or 894 people could have each won $999,441. Wouldn’t that be better?
Splitting the jackpot among more people would give individuals significantly better chances of winning and enhance the lives of many more citizens and their families.
