SMYRNA — Dr. Eugenia Caternor operates a pair of businesses that could treat one patient in two different ways — as a visit to the Kairos Embrace Behavioral Health Clinic can be a trip to Transformations Center for Weight Loss, too.

“Initially, (the facility) involved just weight loss, but we realized it is just a symptom of the problems, so our ultimate goal is to treat the whole person, with their body, heart and soul together,” she explained.

In addition to providing physiotherapy and weight loss support, Dr. Caternor utilizes nurse practitioners to provide primary care through Harmony Health Services.

Kairos Embrace has been open since May 1, 2023, and a ribbon cutting was hosted by the Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce last month.

Dr. Caternor said business has been steady ever since its debut, praising Smyrna for its welcome.

“It’s almost like one big family, and people refer friends, neighbors, co-workers. It’s just been amazing,” the Smyrna resident added. “People come in here, (and) they know each other. They’re talking. They’re laughing. They’re sharing their experiences.

“To me, seeing the impact that it is making in people’s lives — as they lose the weight, they’re (gaining) health, they feel good, their blood sugar is going down, blood pressure is going down, cholesterol is going down — is great.”

On its website, the multifaceted enterprise is described as “dedicated to fostering healing, hope, and empowerment in the lives of individuals and families facing mental health challenges.”

“Guided by compassion and expertise, our mission is to provide comprehensive, personalized care that embraces the uniqueness of each individual. We strive to create a safe, inclusive environment where clients can explore their inner strengths, overcome obstacles, and achieve holistic wellness.”

It continues, “Through evidence-based practices, innovative therapies, and a collaborative approach, we are committed to supporting our community on their journey toward emotional resilience and a fulfilling life.”

According to a Central Delaware Chamber of Commerce news release, Kairos Embrace offers “mental health evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment. They can provide substance use screening and treatment, psychotherapy, medication management.”

In addition, the site treats anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, ADHD, schizophrenia, PTSD and other conditions through individual and group services, the chamber stated.

Regarding insurance options, Dr. Caternor said, “Some insurance companies pay for the medication if we send it to the pharmacy, but the consultation is out of pocket at this point.”

Potential patients can find the 1,500-square-foot office at 1000 Smyrna Clayton Blvd., Unit 5, in the Town & Country Plaza. There are two full-time employees and three part time.

Dr. Caternor will also open a site at 487 S. Queen St., near Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover, on May 1. She owns a location in Laurel, Maryland, as well.
