Easter has passed, and what can we glean from the message of the resurrection of Christ and his triumph over evil? Our country is entangled in a war of our own making, inflation is gaining a foothold, gas prices are soaring, and we have a vulgar, incompetent, immoral president. Where should we point the finger of responsibility?
We can all agree that it was a bipartisan mistake of voters — Democrats and independents, but most of all Republicans and hypocritical evangelicals, who abandoned moral codes and common sense to support a man whose only concern seems to be to enhance his wealth and his personal image, which he has pompously done on a regular basis. He lacks an understanding of the word “compassion” and is either ignorant of or disregards factual truth, and his vulgarity speaks volumes of his personal character traits.
How many of his supporters would want their children or grandchildren to grow up to become a personal replica of this man? How many of his supporters are in favor of the restrictions he wants to impose on voting in our democratic elections? Older adults and isolated independents, Republicans and Democrats have voted for decades in the manner that this man wants to overturn, so he can fix the elections to favor his goals.
We must then, once again, try to assess blame for this travesty we are living in. No one can support any politician who continuously bows to the president’s wishes, which mostly means Republican politicians. I grew up a Republican. I am now glad to say I abandoned that party when Richard Nixon was in the White House. We now have a president far worse than Nixon running the show.
We must abandon this foolishness of bigoted discrimination and ignorance, and be sure that we toss out all who have supported this president. It may mean that no one should consider voting for anyone who is a supporter of Donald Trump. It may be too late. I hope not and hope voters will wake up and realize that he is the worst president we have ever had occupying the White House.
