Six Henlopen wrestlers earn top seeds in DIAA state tourney

DOVER — Six Henlopen Conference wrestlers have earned No. 1 seeds in next weekend’s DIAA individual state tournament.

The two-day tourney begins on Friday at Cape Henlopen.

Six Henlopen wrestlers earn top seeds in DIAA state tourney

DOVER — Six Henlopen Conference wrestlers have earned No. 1 seeds in next weekend’s DIAA individual state tournament.

The two-day tourney begins on Friday at Cape Henlopen.

Henlopen Conference champion Sussex Central and Cape Henlopen have two top seeds each. Delaware Military Academy has three No. 1 seeds while Salesianum has two.

The Downstate No. 1 seeds are: Cape Henlopen — Austin Guerrieri (106, 37-7), Nicholas Walker (144, 35-6); Sussex Central — Malachi Stratton (120, 45-7), Evan Cordrey (132, 41-5); Caesar Rodney — Trevor Copes (126, 38-3); and Laurel — Stanley Peete (150, 39-2).

Stratton is a defending state champion, winning the title at 113 pounds last year. Lake Forest’s Nurrideen Ahmad-Statts, who won the championship at 150 last winter, is seeded third at 157.

The other top seeds, by schools, are: DMA — Malcolm Roy (157, 32-7), Hayden Moaney (190, 42-6), Cael DeNigris (285, 39-4); Salesianum — Dominic Lucian (113, 33-9), James Miller (215, 37-0); Caravel — Eddie Radecki (138, 22-6); Saint Mark’s — Luke Spoor (175, 11-2); and William Penn — Franklin Norris (157, 28-0).

College basketball

WOMEN, Towson 70, Delaware 57: The Tigers out-scored the Blue Hens, 23-14 in the third quarter, to take control in the CAA contest.

Delaware, which fell to 6-8 CAA, 10-16 overall, got a season-high 23 points from Chloe Wilson, who also had nine rebounds. Ande’a Cherisier added 12 points.

Former Caesar Rodney High player Kylie Kornegay-Lucas had 15 points and 12 rebounds for Towson.
