LAUREL — A 27-year-old Virginia man died in a single-vehicle crash Saturday, Delaware State Police said.
The man was driving at an apparent high rate of speed at approximately 6:48 p.m. when his vehicle veered off Sharptown Road west of Mount Pleasant Road for unknown reasons and crashed, authorities said.
The driver, from Bloxom, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld until his family is notitied.
The passenger, whose identity is unknown at this time, was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The roadway was closed for approximately four hours while investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.
