Second Cape Henlopen High student arrested in gun case

Posted

LEWES — A 15-year-old Cape Henlopen High student was arrested on Thursday in connection with a gun found on school property last week, Delaware State Police said.

The arrest came after detectives determined that the student gave the gun to a 17-year-old student on Jan. 16, authorities said.

Additionally, according to police, the students conspired to conceal the gun from being discovered by the School Resource Officer and school staff on Jan. 17, after the 17-year-old was detained.

On Thursday, police said, the 15-year-old turned himself in to detectives at Troop 4. He was charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a person under 18, possession of a firearm in a safe school zone and second-degree conspiracy.

The teen was arraigned by Family Court and released to a guardian on a $2,500 unsecured bond. He was also issued a no contact order with the Cape Henlopen School District.
