Seaford man arrested after narcotics investigation

LEWES — James May, 62, of Seaford, was arrested on numerous drug charges Wednesday following a narcotics investigation that began in February, Delaware State Police said.

According to spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, on Feb. 13 at approximately 4 p.m. detectives responded to Asbury Road west of Raccoon Ditch Road in Georgetown after a hunter found large bags buried in the woods that appeared to contain narcotics. Cocaine and suspected heroin in the bags were located in the woods, police said.

Investigation determined that the drugs allegedly belonged to Mr. May, authorities said.

Mr. May was linked to a vehicle that was seized and seached the next day, police said. Cocaine, crack cocaine and suspected heroin were found in the car, Cpl. DeMalto said.

On Wednesday at around 4:40 p.m., police said, Mr. May stopped while driving on Coastal Highway near Shady Road in Lewes, police said. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Cocaine, crack cocaine and suspected heroin were located in the vechile, along with over $1,600 in suspected drug dealing proceeds, poliec said.

Mr. May was charged with possession offenses including with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity (two counts), with intent to deliver a controlled substance (three counts), with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 1 quantity and drug paraphernalia.

Following arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 2, Mr. May was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $119,000 secured bond.
