Two seeking mayor spot, five vying for council in Seaford

SEAFORD — Voters going to the polls in the municipal election April 20 will have multiple choices for mayor and City Council.

In one of the largest candidate fields in recent years, there are two selections for mayor and five for council positions. The filing deadline was Friday.

Current City Councilman Matt MacCoy and former Councilman Jose Santos are seeking the mayoral reins held by David Genshaw, who is not pursuing another two-year term after a decade.

The five council candidates are incumbent Orlando Holland, Alan Quillen, Roxanne Knights, Stephanie Grassett and Jim Walsh, who filed Friday.

The terms of Councilman Holland, first elected in 2015, and James King, in his seat since 2018, are expiring this year.

Council terms last three years.

In-person voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Hall, 414 High St. Voting can also be completed via absentee ballots.

In last year’s election, incumbent Dan Henderson and challenger Michael Bradley emerged as winners in a three-candidate race, topping Mr. Santos’ unsuccessful bid for a second term.

A total of 340 votes were cast, including 45 absentee ballots.
