Salisbury In History: June 19, 1958

From the Thursday June 19, 1958, Salisbury Times:

The Salisbury Colonial Store on Salisbury Boulevard was offering a $500 reward for information concerning a weekend safe-breaking incident. The store safe was dismantled and $5,000 was taken.

In the Court Notices, John Chabara, 57, of Bivalve, was fined $5.75 for failing to stop at a stop sign in Salisbury.

Abbott Brothers Appliances was offering customers a “chance to test” a new 1958 Frigidaire washing machine, “right in your own home for free.” Testers who liked the machine could always keep it “under friendly credit terms.”

The American Brewery Co. of Baltimore officially declared W. Brooks Parks of Parks Wholesale in Salisbury as the area’s sole distributor of Diamond Brite American Beer.

Jesse Byrd of the Salisbury Moose Lodge was named an officer in the Delmarva Legion of the Moose No. 11.

Miss Judy Niblett of North Division Street, a 16-year-old Wi-Hi senior, left on a two-week educational trip at included stops in Charlottesville, Va., and New York City. Her trip was funded by the Newton Lodge of the Independent Oddfellows and the Helping Hand Rebekahs Lodge.

Wi-Hi Indians star pitcher, George “Rocky” Burnnett, was still undecided on which college team he would play for: He had narrowed his choices to Gettysburg, Lafayette and Virginia.

July corn was $1.31 a bushel, soy beans $2.24, 16-quart-crates of strawberries were $3.25.
