Smyrna High registered six pins in posting a 66-3 victory over Dover in Henlopen Conference Northern Division wrestling on Wednesday night.

Hunter Moyer (182 pounds) and Anthony Wuest (195) both won by fall in less than a minute for the Eagles.

Cole Sebastianelli (126), Dakota Kerr (152), Kalen Wilson (160) and Terren Carter (285) also picked up pins.

Sussex Central 34, Cape Henlopen 28: The Golden Knights won five of the last seven individual matches to earn the Henlopen North victory.

Winning by pin for Central were John Morris (220), Yony Garcia (106) and Brandon Bautista (152).

The Vikings got pins from Gabriel Jaquet (113), Cory Lawson (160) and Holden Kammerer (182).

Sussex Tech 64, St. Mark’s 6: All six of the Ravens’ pins came in a minute or less in their nonconference win.

Andre Robinson (132) had an 11-second fall for the quickest of the pins.

Donald Tingle (120), Hunter Hineline (126), Thomas Bunting (145), Jacob Hamer (170) and Colin Bergh (182) also won by pin.

Indian River 40, Laurel 34: A 40-second pin from Montez Purnell (285) gave the Indians the Henlopen South victory.

The fall was one of five by IR. Also winning by pin for the Indians were Jared Arlett (126), Rashawn Turner (138), Shawn Waters (145) and Ezekiel Marcozzi (160).

Posting pins for the Bulldogs were Schnyder Louis (106), Isiah Fosque (120), Austin Venables (132) and Michael Handy (220). Handy’s pin tied the match at 34-34.

Delmar 56, Woodbridge 21: The Wildcats scored the first 29 points of the match before picking up the South victory.

With the match starting at 132, Dhavel Patel (132), Logan Thomas (145), Chance Watts (152), Brady Knight (160), Maguire Free (195), Brandon Thompson (220) and Tyler Powell (126) all had pins for Delmar.

The Raiders got pins from Robert Bove (170), Devin Birmingham (182) and Dominique Pierce (285).

College basketball

MEN, Mary Washington 69, Wesley 67: The Wolverines led for much of the second half but the Eagles drilled a buzzer-beater to topple the Wolverines.

Mary Washington’s T.J. Jones took the inbound pass with 15 seconds left and waited for the clock to wind down. With seven seconds remaining, the guard used a screen at the top of the key and threw up a fadeaway shot that found its way in from 17 feet out with 0.9 seconds remaining.

Wesley missed a desperation shot at the buzzer.

The Wolverines (1-4 CAC, 3-9 overall) ran out to an eight-point lead with 3:34 remaining. But Mary Washington rattled off seven straight points to cut the lead to 67-66 with 1:11 remaining.

Anthony Bowers led all scorers with 18 points while J.W, Lawson scored 16 off the bench. Jordan Johnson and Wayne Lennon each finished in double-digits with 12 and 10 respectively, while Rasahn Brinkley added nine points and 12 rebounds.

WOMEN, Mary Washington 68, Wesley 41: The Wolverines put themselves in an early hole that they couldn’t escape as they fell to the Eagles.

Brionna Johnson (Smyrna) led Wesley (1-4 CAC, 2-9 overall) with 18 points and nine rebounds while Monshea Newsome-Murray (Seaford) scored nine and led the Wolverines with three assists. Wesley shot just 22.2 percent from the floor.

Cornell 71, Delaware State 62: The Hornets outscored Cornell, 24-18, in the final 10 minutes, but a 10-point first quarter hole turned out to be the difference in the nonconference loss.

Trailing 36-22 at the break, the Hornets (3-10) found themselves down by as many as 18 in the second half on two separate occasions.

Mikah Aldridge rebounded from a slow start to record 14 of her game-high 16 points in the second half, while Amber Bogard finished with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

NaJai Pollard, who saw her streak of four consecutive games of scoring in double figures snapped with an eight-point effort, pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds, which tied a career-high.

College football

More honors for Wolverines: Wesley College quarterback Joe Callahan was named the Offensive Player of the Year as nine Wolverines were honored on the ECAC All-South Region squad.

Running back Jamar Baynard, wide receiver Bryce Shade, tight end Kyle George, and offensive linemen Matt Schmidt, Matthew Gono, and Austin Eagle were named to the first-team offense. Defensive back Andre Connally was selected to the first-team defense while wide receiver James Okike was named to the second-team offense.

Tennis

Brengle falls in Brisbane: Dover’s Madison Brengle dropped a 6-3, 6-0 decision to fourth-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany in the Brisbane International tournament on Wednesday in Australia.

Brengle reached the second round of the women’s singles draw with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 victory over Kateryna Bondarenko of the Ukraine.

Kerber needed only 62 minutes to down Brengle at the Queensland Tennis Centre. Ranked No. 10 in the world, she has reached the Brisbane quarterfinals in four straight years.

Brengle is ranked 40th in the world.
